This year's Archibald prize attracted 1005 entries and Berry artist, Craig Handley, is one of 57 finalists in Australia's most iconic portraiture art competition.
Handley's portrait of actor, Anthony LaPaglia, was inspired by the theatrical performance of Death of a Salesman.
"This all fed into the painting through the choice of colours, the isolation of the characters and an overall feeling of separation," Handley said of his connection to La Paglia's character and his own late father.
"It was a rare painting experience for me; things just fell into place, and it was quite cathartic. Both the play and the painting helped me let go of a lot of things."
Archibald Portrait 2024 winners are announced on Friday, June 7, and the exhibition will open to the public from June 8 to September 8 at The Art Gallery of NSW.
