Colin Hesse in Conversation

Catch-up on Friday morning's Triple U FM radio interviews.

Wouldn't it be nice if the local newspaper removed its paywall, employed more staff and provided a central multimedia access hub for the wide variety of fascinating content produced independently across Shoalhaven's many platforms?

Well, until that little dream comes true, Spark will do its bit to connect you to local stories, ideas, information and opinions direct from the community – FREE.

Among the fine local media producers we are lucky to have volunteering on Shoalhaven community radio stations is Colin Hesse, whose Friday morning program on Triple U FM packs in enlightening interviews between great music.

Now you can listen back to those excellent interviews extracted as individual episodes on Colin's Triple U FM Soundcloud page.

If you prefer to listen through your phone while driving the car, walking the dogs or scrubbing the dishes, download the Soundcloud app and follow Triple U FM.

When it comes to the most immediate, efficient and intimate insights into local issues, audio is King and Colin is a terrific interviewer.

Start a new habit with Colin's highlights from last Friday (October 3):

Aborist Patrick Faulconer discusses the fate of what he describes as the widest strangler fig in Australia. The "magnificent" fig tree is located on land between Milton and Ulladulla that will be redeveloped as Milton Meadows.

"The moment I walked in there, I can confidently say I've never seen a better looking tree south of Sydney, possibly in all Australia. You can hear the emotion in my voice because that's what I deal with - trees. But once those diggers get in there...it's a slow death."

Fiona Phillips, Member for Gilmore, discusses Black Spot road funding, the impacts and response to global warming and the National Climate Risk Assessment, the Australian Government response to war in Gaza, and Shoalhaven City Council's appointment of Andrew Constance as CEO.

"It's terrible, I don't tend to get involved in local government matters too much, that's why we have councillors. But I couldn't not say something in this case because I have to deal with Council CEOs...that's the reality. We have projects we have to deliver and we don't need a political appointment that is going to hinder that process."

Kurt Hess, Swiss cellist with the “brotherhood” of Adelaide Cello Trio in concert with Cellisimo last weekend at the Nowra School or Arts, on how cellos sound like the human voice.

"The range of the instrument is so vast one can really perform a fantastic score. You feel the vibrations while you play. I've got four cellos...one is Venetian from 1693 and it still sounds absolutely stunning."
